Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyy

Museum of the History of Ukrainian Folk Architecture. An open air museum with dozens of structures, including four wooden churches. Not very well documented (e.g., I could not determine where the churches were originally from nor who they were originally dedicated to). While the very act by the Soviets of moving these churches and making them part of an architectural museum should be considered to be a desecration, several were subjected to worse as described below. "Click" on any picture to view additional photographs of the particular church.

DSC01857 A wooden tripartite church and bell tower. Possibly 17th century.
DSC01858 A second, wooden tripartite church. This one was completely desecrated by the Soviet. It was actually turned into an anti-religious museum. Since the fall of the Soviet Union it has been turned into an Orthodox museum, with old vestments, services books, and the like placed on display. The dome of the cupola above the nave was also painted by the Soviet with cosmonauts (astronauts), which are still visible.
cruciformChurch-PK A wooden cruciform church. Possibly 19th century.
DSC01868 A third, wooden tripartite church. This one was further desecrated by the Soviet who turned it into an embroidery museum (which it remains).
